On the strength of four consecutive victories, the MSU rifle team moved up to 12th in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association national poll. The spot just outside the top 10 is the highest ranking ever achieved by Morehead State Rifle.

The Eagles’ victory in 2017 over OVC rival Jacksonville State (the first in program history against JSU) vaulted the team higher in the rankings. MSU also owns victories over nationally-ranked North Georgia and UT Martin (twice).

MSU’s 4,645 aggregate total at Jacksonville State was a school record. In this year’s OVC Championship, MSU Rifle took second place, the program’s highest finish ever since tying for second place in 2009. The team also earned its second consecutive OVC Team Sportsmanship Award, an award bestowed upon the conference squads deemed to have exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA.
